For the second Gorillaz album, Damon Albarn did not want simply to repeat the success of the debut. He therefore worked with producer Danger Mouse, who had recently attracted major attention with The Grey Album.
The result was darker and more cinematic. Demon Days moves from hip-hop to gospel, electronics and pop without ever feeling like a loose compilation.
Feel Good Inc. was only one doorway
Feel Good Inc. became the huge single, but the album is full of strange collaborations and unexpected voices. De La Soul, Neneh Cherry, Shaun Ryder and even a children’s choir all appear in the same world.
The end of the album may be the clearest proof of its ambition. Don't Get Lost in Heaven flows directly into the title track Demon Days.
