By 2019, Hot Chip had made six albums using a very distinctive working method. For A Bath Full of Ecstasy, they let two outside producers take a genuine role at the controls for the first time.
Rodaidh McDonald and Philippe Zdar each brought something different. McDonald helped the band edit more sharply and search for stronger choruses. Zdar, known from Cassius, gave the mix more drama and physical impact.
Dance music does not have to feel cold
That suits Hot Chip. Their music can work perfectly on a dance floor, but underneath the synths there is almost always something human and melancholic.
The band members also brought experience from their other projects. Al Doyle, for example, played with LCD Soundsystem, while Joe Goddard and Alexis Taylor worked solo between Hot Chip albums.
