Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory op vinyl

Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory | Anger, melody and a generation that recognised itself

Before they were called Linkin Park, the band spent a period known as Hybrid Theory.

That name eventually had to change because another act already used a similar name. The group looked to Lincoln Park in Santa Monica and changed the spelling to Linkin Park, partly so they could secure a usable internet name.

The old name lived on

When the debut album arrived in 2000, it still received the title Hybrid Theory. It was almost too fitting. The music itself was also a hybrid: heavy guitars, hip-hop, electronics and the two very different voices of Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda.

Songs such as One Step Closer, Crawling and In the End turned that combination from a niche sound into mainstream rock.
