Live Vol. 1 sounds like a concert, but it was recorded in a place best known for studio albums.
Parcels went to the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, where artists including David Bowie and Iggy Pop had worked before them. The entire session was filmed as well.
No audience needed
The band played a long sequence of its own songs live in the room, with vocal harmonies, guitars, bass, keyboards and drums all reacting directly to one another. No festival crowd, no applause between songs: just five musicians constantly following each other’s timing.
The footage was recorded before the pandemic and released in 2020, just as live music suddenly disappeared almost everywhere. That gave the session an unintended extra meaning.
