Abbey Road was not the final Beatles album to be released, but it was the last record John, Paul, George and Ringo recorded together as a band.
Relations had become difficult. Even so, in 1969 they decided to work with producer George Martin again and put studio craft at the centre of the project.
Separate pieces become one whole
For side B, Paul McCartney brought several short and unfinished ideas together into one long medley. You Never Give Me Your Money, Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight and The End became something larger than the individual pieces.
On The End, Ringo Starr also plays his famous drum solo, followed by guitar passages in which McCartney, George Harrison and John Lennon trade turns.
