When Anders Trentemøller made The Last Resort, he did not want to release simply a collection of club tracks.
He never saw himself exclusively as a techno producer anyway. In the studio, he preferred not to think about genres or target audiences, but about the music that felt right at that moment.
Emotion without words
Trentemøller later described the album as highly personal. It was meant to reflect his life, thoughts, uncertainties and desires. The difficulty was expressing much of that without vocals.
That is why texture and space work almost like lyrics here. A bass line can feel threatening, a small melody can suddenly add warmth, and silence becomes as important as rhythm.
