Behind Xenoula is Romy Xeno, and behind her debut is a very real collision between two worlds.
Xeno spent much of her childhood in South Africa, where nature and music from nearby villages left a strong impression on her. At sixteen, she moved to the United Kingdom. The much busier, more urban environment felt like a culture shock.
Music as a landscape of her own
That contrast became the foundation of Xenoula. After a period in North Wales, she worked with producer Sam Dust, better known as LA Priest.
The music blends organic percussion and natural ambience with synths and unusual electronic textures. The Xenoula alter ego became almost a character through which Xeno could mix memories, cities and nature together.
